Hello, my named is William Hart and I work for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as a DCFS Recruitment & Resource Specialist for the DeKalb County Region. My purpose and goal is to “Increase the awareness of being a licensed foster parent here in the DeKalb County area”. There is a great shortest of licensed caretakers in DeKalb County when it comes to placing a child or sibling group into a short or long-term care placement.

The means used to address the recruitment of licensed foster parents is having members from the DeKalb County area join and actively participate in what my department calls the DeKalb Collaborative Team. The Collaborative Team usually meets on monthly bases at the DCFS Field Office located at 760 Peace Road, DeKalb, IL 60115, (815) 787-5319 and strategized positive approaches that generate more interest, significance and awareness of the importance of having more licensed foster parents to provide safety and care to youths who come directly from the DeKalb County area.

Youths who are from the DeKalb area are sometimes placed as far as Cook, Lake, Winnebago and Stephenson counties because there is not being enough licensed caretakers in DeKalb county. In an effort to address this concern the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has an on-going state wide initiative of developing child specific foster care placements for children and youths who live in or near the DeKalb County area.

This writer has been searching throughout the DeKalb County area and giving brief presentations about how essential more licensed foster parents are needed for the DeKalb, IL area. During a day and time you feel would be appropriate this DCFS Recruitment & Resource Specialist is asking for your approval to be able to set up a small display and give informative about:

A. The need for more licensed foster parent(s) specifically from the DeKalb County Area;
B. The positive effects licensed foster parent(s) have on youths who placed in foster care whose origin is the DeKalb County area;
C. Hand out posters, pamphlets, business cards and foster parent applications for those who have an interest in becoming a licensed caretaker for the Illinois Foster Care System;
D. Share information about the foster parent referral process; and
F. Have foster parent recruitment information posted on your community bulletin board or in your banking newsletter.
